Was Chernobyl the beginning of the end for the Soviet Union ?

    No it wasn't really.  It was just one of the terrible disasters that befell the Soviet Union around that time, albeit the most serious one.  It, and the other disasters, were the results of either negligence or not following safety precautions either because proper materials or personnel were not available, or because of the rush to meet production quotas.

    No, but it demonstrated that the Soviet Union and its brand of communism would never function effectively or competently.

    no no no,,,, soviet union started in 1917 (i think) chernobyl was when a power plant in the soviet union exploded causing terrible damage
