In the 1980s, old people belonged to the Lost Generation (1883-1900) or the Greatest Generation (1901-1925) or the Silent Generation (1926-1945).

Your idea of 'old' is fairly juvenile.

Generation X isn't that old. Baby boomers aren't either.

Your premise is incorrect, since even the oldest boomer (born 1946) is only 73.

Old people in the 1980s were of what is called the Lost Generation.

The Silent Generation is the demographic cohort following the Greatest Generation and preceding the baby boomers. Demographers and researchers use mid-to-late 1920s as starting birth years and early-to-mid 1940s as ending birth years, with 1945 a widely accepted ending birth year.

Just old people. The people retiring today are a result of the "Baby Boom" which occurred when millions of soldiers came home from Europe after World War Two, married and multiplied. This is why our Social Security system is in dire financial trouble.
