Would our founding fathers be ok with private citizens owning ar15s?

If you brought Ben Franklin George Washington, Samuel Adams, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and showed them the ar15 and told them this is our new musket for the common man, and there are those in the government scheming to take them away from all citizens? Who use them for protection. You think they would be okay with that.

When the 2nd amendment was written, all guns were military style weapons.

Yeah, especially considering the whole point of the 2nd amendment is to keep the government on it's toes and not overstep it's authority, lest they find themselves on the wrong end of a revolution.

Yes, of course they would be. Except I feel as if they only wanted white men who were private citizens to own guns. If you think of Boston in the 1700’s vs. some diverse Silicon Valley community we see today, America has devolved far past anything the Founders could have envisioned

They would probably wonder why the government has weapons the people don't.

Generally, they believed that if the citizens didn't have the capability to overthrow the government then the government would just take all of the citizens freedoms. Based on the last 100 years or so they were completely right.

So, they would probably say the AR15 isn't enough.

Yes, they would be excited about it and say "We've got to have some of our own."

You couldn't murder scores of people in a public place with a musket. I think they would have thought it was an awesome weapon, but would have been horrified to have it in public hands, probably preferring to keep it in state armories for desperate situations.
