What are the elements which makes some guitar necks ‘faster’ than others? Materials, dimensions, radius of back (or front) of neck? Details?

I think that when people normally talk about a “fast neck” they're thinking of a fairly slim neck with a fretboard with a large radius (12” or more), wide frets and a very low action. They're usually thinking in terms of “shredding”.

For me, I don't like a neck that is too shallow or too narrow - I don't find a slim neck easier to play. I like a reasonable action but it doesn't have to be especially low. Also, I don't like exceptionally light gauge strings.
