Why do people not like the idea of me (a slender/average) 20-year old dressing up as a certain portly, white-bearded man? ?

    It is cultural approbation.

Cos you're more like one of the elves than the fat man himself.

Tell them Santa is living a long life because he went keto - and hit the gym.  And the reindeer appreciate his weight loss, too.  Gonna deliver in the tropics, wearing board shorts!  Lookin' good, Santa!

Perhaps it's all about the way you're portraying the said portly, white-bearded man. I don't know....... maybe you're playing the part while wearing a summer frock and hopping around the stage on one foot screaming "It's The Sausages! IT'S THE SAUSAGES!" while vomiting on the audience, or something. The best cure for all this is to simply not do these things, you silly person, you. Hope this helped.

You need a life - or serious psychological help.  You answer THOUSANDS of question - under several accounts - and NONE of your answers are relevant.  None.

    People will complain about anything.

A Southern friend used to say "There are folks that will die, go to Heaven, and complain about the cloud they get."
