You have one voice. It's used for talking and singing. People who say sing from your diaphragm don't know any better. Your vocal chords are in your throat. Your diaphragm is used for breathing properly for singing.

You must sing with your throat, because that is where your vocal chords are. You breathe with your diaphram, expanding your abdomen first to give room for your diaphram to expand, then expand your chest until your lungs are completely filled. People who only expand their chest and suck in their abdomen are not completely filling their lungs. You can sing with your talking voice particularly for contemporary music, or you can vary the tone as some opera singers do if you're singing more classical music.

If the music is composed beautifully, a song can be sung with accompaniment from a piano or guitar, without a strong singing voice.
