How fluently do video files play on a google chromebook?

Do they play fluently or do they show lag

Update:

Video formats such as 271mb mpg file, m4v file mp4 file

    Chromebook is just a desktop environment... you say nothing about the specs of the COMPUTER. Like all *nix blends, you can always install any software you need but it's all about the HARDWARE not the software.

    Depends on the video file type, media player being used and the video resolution.

    Example 1: If the video file type is 3gp and the media player can't deal with that, it won't play back very well at all.

    Example 2: If the video file is MOV and the media player says that should work - but the video resolution is 4K and the media player can't deal with that - other the h.265 codec requirement, then there will be issues.

    Your question is a bit like asking how far your vehicle will go on a gallon of gasoline, but you have not told us that the vehicle is electric or diesel... you have not provided us enough information to properly respond.
