    4 Na + O2 = 2 Na2O

1 mol of Na reacts with 1/4 mol of O2

5 mol of Na reacts with 5/4 mol of O2 or 1.25 mol

    O2 remaining = 10.4 mol - 1.25 mol  = 9.15 mol O2

    Assuming the product is Na2O, moles of O2 remaining = 14 - 5/2

    4 Na + O2 → 2 Na2O

    (5 mol Na) x (1 mol O2 / 4 mol Na) = 1.25 mol O2 reacted

    (10.4 mol initially) - (1.25 mol reacted) = 9.15 mol O2 remaining
