What's the point of testing to see if you have an STD if they're not curable?

People always talk about how important it is to test for possible STDs, but most of them aren't curable, so what's the point of knowing you have something when it can't be cured?

  • Only stds that can't be cured are HIV, HPV and herpes.

Chlamydia and stds that are caused by bacteria can be cured with antibiotics.

Most STDs can be cured. And the earlier you're diagnosed and treated, the less the infection will harm you. Even if you're so unfortunate as to be infected something incurable like HIV, if you're diagnosed and treated you can keep yourself a lot healthier a lot longer.

Actually, most are: chlamydia, syphillis, gonorrhea.  HIV can be knocked down dramatically, and herpes can be controlled. It is also vital to know so you don’t spread it further.
