No such place ever existed. It was merely part of fiction created by Plato for didactic purposes. It was surely inspired by the true story of the destruction of the Minoan civilization on Crete due to a tsunami caused by a volcano erupting at Thera, now Santorini. Plato says that Solon was told about Atlantis by Egyptians, but there is no such thing in Egyptian literature. Plato just exaggerated on many levels to produce a warning to his fellow Athenians. He made the Minoans even more advanced, increased the size of his fictional land, pushed it back further in history, moved it out into the Atlantic Ocean, etc.

If we could answer that it wouldn't be lost, would it?

Nobody knows, that's why it's lost. However if there were such a place and it is now submerged it is unlikely that any viable artefacts would have survived.
