Cracked coil packs?

My 2010 subaru outback suddenly started misfiring, stuttering, smoking, and losing power. upon inspection 2/4 of my coil packs are cracked from passenger side of engine and spark plugs are bad. Could there be another cause besides ignition system parts?

Put a set of NGK Iridium spark plugs in and replace the coils. That's the first thing to do.

If it still runs bad take a gasoline sample in a mason jar and let it sit for 20 minutes and then look for water on the bottom of the mason jar.

There could, but why look for trouble?  You know what the problem is, replace the coil packs and plugs and try again.  Problem gone away?  Then it's done.  If there's STILL a problem, then is the time to start hunting for it.

Replace coils and plugs and check for spark.  Check for trouble codes with a scan tool.  If there are codes other than a misfire, you might need the help of a mechanic with a dealer level scanner.  Engine could be running rich or lean and fouled the plugs.  If there are only misfire codes, clear the codes and test drive the vehicle.
