Can I switch a number from a family plan to a different carrier?

I've moved from my mom's house recently, and I am on her family plan for MetroPCS. Though ATT&T offered me a student discount as well as a free phone with my credit, and my number can be ported over, however, is it possible to port over one number from a family plan without canceling the plan? My mother wants to keep her current plan, however, we don't know how it would affect the prices? Is it even possible to port just one line out of a family plan?

Putting won't be an issue, how it might affect her current plan, she will need to ask her carrier, especially if your phone is still being paid for or you have not fulfilled any part of the contract, which would result in your mom paying an early termination fee (ETF), to allow your phone line off the contract.
