How did Greta Thunberg learn to speak and write English so well despite growing up in Sweden ?

It's not broken at all. For someone who never lived in an English-speaking country, her English is flawless. Both spoken and written.

In Sweden a lot of films and television programs are in English with subtitles so that most people are exposed to English all the time.

good teachers and good subtitles (which you maybe call "captions"). That's several hours every single day for years. It's the same here in the Netherlands, but our languages (Dutch and Frisian) are even more closely related to English than Swedish is

I have never met her.It is true that some people learn a language very well.

For most of us it takes many years or a lifetime.Swedish is quite different from English, more so than Dutch or German.

All the skandinavian countries have been teaching English from an early age for many years.  Of course, maybe now they wish they had been teaching arabic.

they have a superior education system.

also learning different languages when young is supposed to make you more intelligent.and many of them speak half a dozen different languages as do most of the people in the non english world. the US and UK are falling further and further behind.

Abdul, you are amazingly ignorant of our history. Did you know that Spanish was actually the first European language brought here? Then French and English and German.  And of course the Native Americans spoke many tongues.  You really are a poorly-educated little creature, aren't you?

English has been compulsory for all Swedish pupils since 1962. Over 80 % of Swedes speak English.

Most of Europe (France and Russia not included) are taught English as well as their native language.

I'm sure Sweden teaches English from a young age. Most countries do. We should be teaching languages long before high school.
