How much did Rossini make in his lifetime?

Enough to retire on comfortably at age 40.

He was very successful, one of the most prominent opera composers of his time.
He made enough that he could comfortably retire in his french villa, travel, and frequently host weekend soirees, where he would wine, dine, and share music with Liszt, Verdi and others. (Although he still did other works and I believe was commissioned for choral works after he 'retired' from composing operas.
That doesn't answer your question aside from rich enough to retire.

I'd have to give you that figure in pre-Resorgimento lire . . . and then factor for inflation and devaluation for every total change of government in La Bella Italia from then to now. He did live a very long life . . . for the times. How close do we need to guess?
