Most college courses are 3 credit hours. So 4 classes are 12 credit hours. That can easily be achieved over 1 semester.

That's the equivalent of four college courses taken over a semester's time. A semester is about four months.

The months it takes to complete a certain number of credits does not depend on how many credits a student attempts at once.

Most colleges use a semester system, with the 2 primary semesters (Fall and Spring) lasting about 4 months each.  The courses last for the length of the semester, regardless of how many courses a student takes.  Consequently, the number of months for a course would be the same regardless of whether one was taking 1 course, or 6.

It's considered the minimum hours to be full time for one semester.

schools that use the two semesters a year system would require about 4 months. Schools that use the trimester system [three trimesters per year] would require just under 3 months. note that semester hours and trimester hours are NOT interchangeable.

12 college credits is about the minimum hours a full-time student is expected to complete in one semester (4 1/2 months).

Depends. At most U.S. universities, the number of hours a class meets per week is equivalent to the number of credit hours for that course.  A course that meets 3 hours a week in the classroom will earn 3 credit hours.  If a student takes 4 classes, they should earn 13 credit hours per semester.

At a university that use trimesters or quarters or some other length of a "term," the credits assigned to each class could be different and the length of the term is shorter.

12 credits hours can be finished in one semester.

A full time student can take 12-18 credit hours per semester.

The majority of classes are worth 3 credits. Some can be less some can be as much as 5 credits.
