Did they have HR in the ‘60s?

I was watching Mad Men and Anchorman. I wondered when Human Resources was created.

Yes, but it was called "personnel", and it didn't do everything that it does now, especially not the things that you had in mind when you asked this question. What is now called "sexual harassment" was (mostly) legal then.

Of course it did.  It may not have had the exact same duties or focus as it does today, but for any company of size there has always been a department in charge of administrative duties surrounding the hiring, maintaining, and termination of employees.
