    If you're referring to the symbol on a telephone keypad, it has a few different names.

    It can be the "pound key" in the U.S.

    It's also known as the "hash mark" or "hashtag." 

    But its most common name is the "number sign."

    A name invented for it when the digital telephone keypad was first developed at Bell Labs is the "octothorpe."
