Is it okay for hair to use silicone containing hair masks but sulfate free shampoo?

I know that overtime silicones can build up on the hair and cause dryness and you need a sulphate shampoo to remove it, however I have not noticed dryness with silicone products. My shampoo is currently sulphate free, is this a bad idea?

Any clarifying shampoo should do the job to remove any build up in your hair, it doesn't have to be sulfate free. Sulfate free products don't work for every one, at least they didn't for me. Silicone products shouldn't cause your hair to be dry. Silicone based products are supposed to help reduce frizz. If you're noticing your hair feeling dry, maybe you should use products that are meant for dry hair and a few deep conditioning treatments.
