Is "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas funk or disco?

Here's the thing: I always thought that the song "Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas was funk, given its inclusion on a funk compilation my mom bought for us back in the late 90's. However, I've seen several sources refer to it as a disco song, and after repeated listens, I can understand why, given that not many - if any - funk tracks have string sections. Still, to me, it has the right attitude for funk. What do you folks think?

It may that it fits into more than one genre.

Though it can be played in both genres, the writers of the song were know as R&B/funk writers.

It was more funk but what a great song though.

I always considered it disco. I mean they played it at discos I went to back then. Man that was a long time ago.
