What does military do in non combat zones?

Say Troops are stationed somewhere like in Europe, Japan, South America or Australia?

They train. A friend of mine told me about serving with the USMC in Okinawa. On weekends they rappelled into otherwise inaccessible beaches using their new skills. Combat its not, but good for them to get out and enjoy Okinawa on their days off instead of just hanging out in bars or whatever.

It's basically a typical 9-5 job. You have certain tasks you are assigned to do and so on.
