Our present is the consequence of the past and our future is the consequence of our present which is, of course. the past of the future.
Without the past there is no future. So if the past is truly dead then so are we.

I was going to give an answer to this, but then I realized that you asked this in the past.

The past is fascinating, and we can learn much from it. As a historian, I know that better than most. History is extremely entertaining and instructive to study. What intelligent person would NOT be interested in how we came to be who we are, or in how differently people once lived?
