Cells transport material from one organelle to another by packaging that material into vesicles that are directed to the target organelle.

Large molecules can be imported by endocytosis, whereby the material is incorporated into a vesicle at the plasma membrane and drawn into the cell. Exocytosis allows the cell to export substances in the reverse manner--package the material into a vesicle and target it to fuse with the plasma membrane, dumping the contents out of the cell.
