Initial potential energy = mgh = 3.5x10^4(9.8)(71.6) = 24.6x10^6 J

Kinetic energy at the bottom = ½mv² = ½(3.5x10^4)10.0² = 1.75x10^6 J

Energy converted to heat = 24.6x10^4 - 1.75x10^4 = 22.8x10^6 J
