is it normal if you have bipolar to go straight from being manic to being depressed without anything in between?

    Most people diagnosed with bipolar disorder don't have that mood disorder at all. Misdiagnosis is rampant these days

    No, that's not generally how it happens. Patients of mine with bipolar describe the condition as a sleeping disorder. By that, they mean that when they are manic, they do not sleep for days and then come crashing down into a practically immobile depression. Mania keeps them awake; extreme exhaustion triggers depression. This is why most doctors prescribe a sleeping pill along with their other bipolar medication.
