What brand or type of carpet for a home is best for someone on a budget?
I'd like to replace my old carpet.

Look for a polypropylene carpet. The foam backed ones are cheapest but not long lasting. The hessian backed ones will last 30 years if looked after.

Wool is best, but it is pricey. Manmade fibers build up static and do not look good.
It is cheaper to pull up the carpet, put down laminate flooring that looks sort of like wood, and put down a cheap area rug (with a plastic-coated underlay so it won't slip around).

If you have wood floors just buy an 80 dollar indoor out door rug that you roll out. They are usually on sale even cheaper in the fall.

Call a contractor. Or visit a home improvement store.
