According to my 30 seconds of google research, about 40% of homes in the US are owned free and clear and 85.4% of new car purchases involve financing.

    Why would it matter?

It would be more concerning if someone paid cash for a $30K car than got a 4y car loan at 1.9% financing...

    - way better financially to use someone else's money in this situation then your own.
