Is atheism founded upon psychology - the ‘why’ of human behavior?

Although denials of God’s existence have been sporadic throughout history, it is only in recent centuries that the popularity of atheism has spread. Belief or disbelief in God can profoundly affect your outlook on the future. Without God, the survival of the human race is entirely in man’s hands—a bleak thought, considering man’s destructive potential. If you do believe that God exists, then you likely accept that life on this planet does have a purpose—a purpose that may yet be realized.Source(s): The Roots of Atheism - https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1994880?q=athe...

No- if people didn't believe absurd claims, then words like "atheist" wouldn't exist because they wouldn't have to reject the claims

Humans construct creation mythologies. This human behavior has been noted in most, if not all, known cultures. The reason this is done is because a concept of reality is needed in order to function effectively. Even if the concepts are not accurate reflections of actual reality, they provide a basis for decision-making; indecision is thus avoided, thereby fulfilling a basic psychological need.
Realizing these things may play a part in the founding of a person's atheistic beliefs.

No, it is not. It is based upon arrogance.

Atheism is founded through the philosophy of this world, not according to Christ and the Bible. (Colossians 2:8)

No, but it's supported by the absence of gods......

Not likely, since there are plenty of psychologists who are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and members of other religions.

I can't believe that questions in this same vein continue to be asked. Frankly they are moronic.
Atheism is the world we use to describe people that have rejected theistic claims that a deity (God or gods) exist.
An atheist could reject the claim because they have good reasons, for example the analysis of available evidence being insufficient to justify believing the claim. An atheist could also reject the claims for a bad reason as well, "god let my puppy spot die, even after I prayed for him to recover". But the reason is irrelevant, the word only describes their current position on the theistic claim.

Let's look at what a noted Psychiatrist would say about religious beliefs ...
"Religion is so pathetically absurd and infantile that it is humiliating and embarrassing to think the majority of people will never rise above it. "
Religion is founded on common sense...
Atheism is for mature adults...
