The electron from a hydrogen atom drops from an excited state into the ground state.?

 

Part A

How much energy does the electron have initially in the n=4 excited state?

Express your answer with the appropriate units.

    The n-th energy level is Eₙ = 13.6/n² (in units of electron-volts), eV)

    So the 4-th level has energy E₄ =  -13.6/4² = 0.85 eV

    ‘suitable units’ could also mean joules, in which case:

    E₄  = 0.85 * 1.6*10^-19 =  -1.36*10^-19 J

    Note, the image in the question is irrelevant.  Maybe it’s something to do with Part B which you haven’t included?
