    Both. Primates ARE mammals.

    Both

    From the broadest to the most specific category of animals, humans belong to:

    Kingdom: Animalia (aka animals)

    Phylum: Chordata (with a spine)

    Subphylum: Vertebrata (vertebrates)

    Class: Mammalia <=== (mammals)

    Order: Primates    <===

    Suborder: Haplorhini

    Infraorder: Simiiformes (simians)

    Superfamily: Hominoidea (apes)

    Family: Hominidae (great apes)

    Subfamily: Homininae

    Tribe: Hominini

    Genus: Homo (aka humans)

    Species: H. sapiens (modern humans only)

    Each group includes the following.

    All primates are mammals, but besides primates, there are dozens of orders of mammals: rodents, cetaceans, bats, carnivorans (including dogs, cats and many more), equids (horses, donkeys, zebras...), etc.

    Humans are classified as mammals because humans have the same distinctive features found in all members of this large group. Humans are also classified within: the subgroup of mammals called primates; and the subgroup of primates called apes and in particular the 'Great Apes'
