Why does today's music not got the same sound? Should we just take the old records off the shelf?

Because your a fake music fan unwilling to learn. Stay stuck in the past for all I care.

Music is more disposable so there is less effort put into the songs.

Because it's become dominated by over-promoted corporate stuff..... sort of like depicted in the South Park episode "The Ring" (S13 E1) where they made fun of the Jonas Brothers + Mickey Mouse + Disney.
There's still half decent stuff buried beneath it.
Richard Ashcroft from "The Verve" has been making a bit of a comeback tour during the past few years, and having a dig at the corporate stuff + woke people between songs.
Liam Gallagher (formerly of Oasis) has also been coming back on full form with new songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvwa_RoUAhA

You misquoted Bob. Its supposed to be soul not sound. You can listen to anything by yourself. I too like that good old rock n roll.

The word is "soul," not "sound.
