Why wasn't storm in the black panther movie?

Isn't storm t'challa's wife in the black panther comics.

Two reasons. First it's because the X-men and all it's characters are the property of 20th Century Fox and Black Panther is the property of Disney. Secondly this is the MCU which is separate from the comic book universe. Think alternate realities. It's like Tony Stark is still Iron Man in the comics but he's dead in the MCU.

Until either Fox allows Disney to use their character or Disney buys Fox they're going to stay separated.

Because Storm is WAY too overpowered.

I think they were only married from like 2005-2010 and then he faked his death or something and she was angry at him and stopped being in his comics. Also the characters were owned by different movie studios when the movie was made.

At the time the film was being written, Fox still had the X-Men rights.

As far as in the comics, yes, they were married for a while. However, even when they were married, they were very rarely shown interacting. On the rare occasions where Storm was shown in Wakanda, she was basically there to rule while T'challa was off on some mission. Otherwise, she was too busy with X-Men or Morlock business.

Storm is so overpowered to be in the movie and owned by another film studio at the time.

Well, the X-Men and mutants' movie rights were all under Fox's control at the time.  And it's not really a storyline that presently makes sense for the MCU version at this time.
