Depends what the test is for but in general drink lots of water and it expands the blood vessels and easier to get the needle into the vein

Ask your doctor.  Sometimes, you can't drink or eat anything before you have blood work done.

It is important that a person has not eaten or drank anything but water for 8 to 10 hours before a fasting blood sugar test. Fasting ensures that the blood test records an accurate measure of fasting blood sugar levels. The results help a doctor diagnose or rule out diabetes.

Not if it's a fasting blood test. In that case, you don't eat anything for 8-12 hours before.

If it contains carbohydrates or sugar - do not drink it.

Water is best because it won't cause any false readings on your test.

But it does also depend on WHAT is being tested.  For some tests, it doesn't matter.  If your doctor has told you to "fast" before this test, then drink ONLY water.

You’re supposed to only drink water 12 hours before your blood test if you’re checking for cholesterol.

If it’s the a1c it doesn’t matter what you drink because the value is averaged for the past 2-3 months so a lemonade isn’t going to affect your a1c.

Typically you are not supposed to drink anything except water before blood work. But, we don't have any idea what kind of "blood test" you are getting.

If they are doing a CBC to check your white cell count, RBC count, platelets, etc, then you can eat and drink anything you want.

If you are on coumadin, or digoxin, or librium, or anti-seizure meds and they are checking levels, you can drink and eat whatever you want.

If they are checking your glucose or your cholesterol, then you should not eat or drink anything for about 6 to 12 hours before.

In short, your doctor should have told you if you need to be fasting.
