Communism is egalitarian, Fascism is hierarchical.

A Communist is willing to sacrifice the state for the good of the people, a Fascist is willing to sacrifice people for the good of the state (or for "the economy")

Communists advocate an economy in which you work according to ability and receive according to need.

Fascists advocate an economy that pampers "superior" people and leaves the poor to rot and die

The persistent reliance upon the highly inaccurate linear left-right political spectrum does not allow for higher understanding of political ideologies.

A 3-d spectrum, which has political liberty, personal liberty and economic liberty as the 3 axes does a much better job of showing where these ideologies lie in relation to one another.
