GE Washer and Dryers get top notch consumer reviews. Why do so many people say not to buy GE appliances?

Expensive to repair. Our dishwasher pump/impeller needed to be replaced. Couldn't buy just the impeller, had to buy the assembly: $450 plus installation. Any other dishwasher the impeller and install would have been less than $150. The unit was 12 yrs old; replaced the dishwasher with a Bosch.

They may have improved by now but based on our experience with GE Profile appliances when we remodeled our kitchen around 2010 we will never be buying another GE product. Their customer service treated us (and others with some of the same issues) like dirt. The oven door arrived with a small exterior crack in the corner of the door. The microwave's touchscreen panel fried within 4 years. The dishwasher fan wouldn't turn off at the end of the cycle and it was necessary to open and shut the door to get it to stop. No help from the company on any of it. They basically said ,"So sue us. We have deep pockets and can outlast you." Complaints were filed with the State regulatory department but nothing ever came of them.

GE is still pretty good. Some assume because they are now a subsidiary of Chinese company Haier that the production quality has been sacrificed but truth is they just don't make them like they used to. Whirlpool and Maytag don't manufacture 30 year appliances anymore either

Because GE was not doing very well financially as a company - mostly because other divisions were not doing well. The appliances division was doing OK in comparison.

We bought GE Profile series refrigerator, microwave (+ convection), stove, clothes washer and dryer last year when we moved into our new home. They work great - but I'll let you know in 10 years how they are holding up.

I bought a GE set 6 years ago and it has done very well. It was not the most expensive but it was not their cheapest either.  I would not hesitate to buy another GE appliance. .
