    It's a pedal steel guitar.

    I can understand that anyone not American or interested in country music might not know that but it's worrying that anyone might think it was a dulcimer or a zither 😳

  • It's a steel or Hawaiian guitar.  It's basically an electric guitar built into a table, tuned to a G major chord and with no frets.  You use a steel roller (now usually called a bottleneck although strictly speaking that's a smaller gadget used in blues guitar) to hold the strings and you have finger picks to pluck them.  It gives a glissando sound enhanced by a little feedback.

      You are almost completely wrong - it's actually a pedal steel guitar. There are a variety of tunings but G major chord is not one of them.A bottleneck is hollow while a pedal steel uses a solid slide.
