The majority of pregnancies are uneventful and most women experience no complications.

Some of the serious and dangerous  complications of pregnancy that might occur could include amniotic fluid complications, bleeding, ectopic pregnancy, placental complications, toxemia, gestational diabetes.

Well, it can result in her death, permanent disability, or at least ongoing health issues that are not disabling but are inconvenient to deal with.

    Pre-eclampsia

    Eclampsia

    Ectopic pregnancy

    Placental abruption

    Placenta previa

    Hyperemesis gravidarum

    Anemia

    Hypertension

    Sepsis

    Cardiomyopathy

    Blood clotting disorders

Those are just the ones that leapt to mind. While the great majority of women can get through pregnancy and delivery just fine, it's still a very high-risk endeavor. More dangerous than being a firefighter or cop, for example.

Thank you for mentioning cardiomyopathy. I suffered from that, yet many pregnant women are never told that pregnancy can cause heart failure. It's rare, but the biggest determining factor of survivability is quick diagnosis/treatment, which means patients and doctors should know what to look for.

Nothing is more important to an expectant mom than the health and safety of her unborn child.

There are lots of dangerous things when a woman is pregnant, but miscarriage isn't necessarily one of them. Miscarriage happens in one in five pregnancies.

Pregnancy can be life-threatening. There's hemorrhage, infection, blood clots, eclampsia, obstructed labor, and dangers from C-sections because they're surgery. You're still talking about a death rate between 1 in 10,000 (in wealthy countries and 4 in 1,000 in poor countries. In addition, a woman can lose the ability to have future children in some cases.
