It's a bigger deal for boys than girls, isn't it.  However, I've never been to a Bar mitzvah but I've been to two Bat mitzvahs.

Because girls don't have a bar mitzvah.  They have a bat mitzvah.

Why can't you look this up?

The bar mitzvah is considered the biggest day or event in a males life, in the Jewish religion.

The 'day' equivalent for a female, is her wedding day.

This is because in most every culture on this planet, males are considered the dominant species and females are subservient.

    Bar mitzvah.

The one for girls is Bat mitzvah.

    Hebrew culture is male-centric.

A barmitzvah (note spelling) is for a boy, and is traditional. The girl's equivalent is a batmitzvah (note spelling) and has been introduced much more recently. I don't know about people "going on about it"; but it's an important milestone in Jewish life.

    Bar Mitzvah for boys,

    Bat Mitzvah for girls.
