Is putting a kitchen sponge in the dryer harmful?

My dad put a kitchen sponge In the dryer

    Harmful to what?  I just run them through the dishwasher and let them air dry.

    No, but sometimes they shrink and get pretty hard. the methylcellulose ones ones melt. They can also go through the dishwasher

    You can put a kitchen sponge in the dryer as long as the dryer isn't so hot that it melts the sponge

    No, but it’s better to microwave the sponge. It brings the moisture in it up to the boiling point and kills bacteria. It also helps it dry out faster.
