If Japan didn't surrender after dropping atomic bombs in Nagasaki, Did America drop them in Tokyo?

Anything is possible if Japan refused to surrender, but Tokyo would have been pretty far down the list.  They wanted to use the nukes on a target that would be impactful enough to scare the Japanese to surrender, but not a target like Tokyo which would have killed far more people than required to make an effective psychological deterrent to continue the war.

Do you mean would they ever have decided to bomb Tokyo?  Possibly, but it wasn't third on the list.

What is sad, I think, is that it took a second bomb, after seeing the destruction of the first and after having several days to think about it, to make them surrender.

    Huh? what?

No,  No one ever dropped a Nuke on Tokyo, although Tokyo was heavily fire bombed.

When they failed to surrender after the first one, on Hiroshima....the decision was made to hit Kokura next..........but luckily for them,  heavy cloud cover made targeting impossible, so the plane was diverted to it's SECONDARY target.....Nagasaki.

So Kokura was saved by bad weather .

In the face of a second city obliterated.......and NOT knowing how many more of these we had........(if any)........it would have been pointless and futile to keep resisting at that point,   ---as from their perspective.........we MIGHT have had hundreds of these things.   (we didn't.....but they didn't know that. )

The first might have been written off as some sort of experimental thing, or Lucky shot.........but the second proved......we had a massive new weapon, and were not afraid to use it. .....and they smartly folded at that point.

If we did have ten or 100  more......their country would have been obliterated.

Truman was a twisted POS , who knows what in the devil's name he would've done next. Once wasn't enough, he had to  drop a second nuke on thousands of innocent people! They should've dropped one on him!

Japan surrendered so we didn't have to.

Possibly. It's hard to say. The original targets were Hiroshima and Kyoto - but the US secretary of State for War, Henry Stimson, insisted Kyoto wasn't targeted because he had spent his honeymoon there and thought the cost of destroying such a cultural city was too great (at the time at least). Perhaps the idea of destroying the Japanese capital would also have been viewed in a similar way - and other far more strategically important cities (like Kokura, the original target instead of Nagasaki - it was only saved because the city couldn't be clearly seen through smoke and clouds) would have been targeted before Tokyo. Niigata and Yokohama were also high up the list of targets - it's hard to imagine Japan continuing after the bombing of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Niigata, Kokura, Yokohama AND Kyoto.

The US had run out of A-bombs. They only had two.

Probably not, you need a government to do the surrendering, so no point nuking them.
