What pressure would be created in a 15 liter tank if 1g of nitroglycerine explodes inside causing the temperature to be 450C?

    4C3H5N3O9 ---> 12CO2 + 6N2 + 10H2O + O2

    Molar mass of nitroglycerine is 227.0865 g/mol 

    moles of nitroglycerine = 1 g / 227.0865 g/mol  = 0.00440 moles 

    stoichiometric moles of gas produced at 450oC= 12+6+10+1 = 29 moles 

    moles produced by our 1 g =  = 0.00440 moles * 29 / 4 = 0.0319 moles 

    Pressure = nRT / V = 0.0319 mol * 0.0820 L⋅atm⋅K−1⋅mol−1* (273+450) K / 15 L

     

    = 0.126 atmosphere <<<<< answer

    1g /227  =  1/227 mole

      1/227  X  29molesProducts/4molesReactants  =  29/908 moles gaseous products  <<<<  becomes n for Ideal gas Equation

       V = 15L  ....  T = 450C = 723K

      P  =  nRT/V  =  (29/908)(0.0821)(723)/15

      P  =  0.126387 atm  <<<  round as needed
