Spain to USA shipping, Passport?

Is it normal for a transport company to request a passport number or copy? I'm trying to buy an out of print book.

Update:

The transport company is Correos España. They requested only my passport number. I'm going to give it a shot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If they're not shipping you, there's absolutely no reason they'd need a copy of your passport.

Is it normal for .....   NO.

THIS appears to be a scam for your Identification

You are trying to buy a book.

How do you know this place actually has the book you desire?

A transport company in this case most likely the Post Office does not require your PASSPORT number.

Something is just WRONG about this situation.  Keep control of your money.

Of course you can send me your money and I can send the book to you.

I have many years experience in a used book store.

There are many scammers out on the web. Your search appears to have found one.

PS Mail CASH  I can hide it from the taxman easier.

Please specify how you want me to write your invoice I can make up something.

If you do not like the book I send you TOO BAD for you.

No its a book.  The shipping company fills out the shipping info, customs documents.  they only need your name and address.  no bank accounts, no passport, no license or anything else,

I'm not sure why they'd need that. Passports are for people. I've ordered things from other countries many times, books included, and have never been asked to provide my passport number or anything to do with my passport. I'd suspect a scam and would not provide my passport number.
