What next? what would you do? opinions?

Ive worked so hard towards a career and because of a freak accident im left deaf which makes me unfit to to be in the field ive worked so hard to get into and also in college for.

im 22 and kind of lost and scared, I feel like im too old to start a BRAND new career and at that have no idea where to start.

opinions?

Update:

keep in mind being deaf kind of takes away a lot of job opportunities.

What you are is deluded! Which means "believing something that is not true." At 22 yrs old you have your whole life ahead of you, people change careers at twice your age and in todays climate that is something that happens for most people.....so you need to get over yourself, yes it is a shick to the system whatever your age to have to deal with the loss of a sense but until you decide that life continues and life is not always exactly what we want and the opportunities out there are wide open.

Start with stopping feeling sorry for yourself as that won't help you at all......then what do you like doing, what opportunities are there locally to where you are maybe connected to what you already do but also look at other industries too and stop wasting your time 'beleiving' in things that stop you before you even get started

People start new careers at 40. You're plenty young enough to re-train to do something else.

Some places to start: ask your college's career counselor what sort of jobs are related to your degree that might be more appropriate now. Ask whatever therapists you've been assigned to since the accident what kinds of jobs other deaf people tend to go into.

In the meantime, assuming you've gotten enough financial compensation for the accident that you aren't desperate for work right now, try some volunteer work. Use that lower-pressure environment to learn what you are still capable of doing, what you can't do, and what you can do with some simple accommodations.

22 is not too old to start a new career. If you think about it, careers in many fields never start before age 22.

u re 22 - practically a baby. u re not too old for anything. don't sit and wait, life is too short - one blink and u re 50. this is too late to start over
