Did you know I saved a goldfish from drowning?
It's true. You can ask any PetSmart worker.

Fish actually can drown. Fish don't breathe water. They breathe air, air they get out of water. Fish gills filter tiny air bubbles out of water. If the water has no air bubbles in it, they drown. The water in a fish bowl that hasn't been changed in a long time and/or has been kept with an air-tight lid on it, for example, will result in the water not having any air bubbles in it, leading to the fish drowning. That's why if you don't change your pet fish's water frequently or have your pet fish in a tank with an aerator constantly blowing air bubble through the water, your pet fish dies.
