Why wasn’t Futurama as popular as the Simpsons when it was airing on Fox?

many people involved in the production of Futurama are familiar with science.
Many of the themes and jokes went right over the heads of many viewers.

The Simpson was way better because people could relate to it.

I think that's part of the nature of sci fi. The theme was aimed at a narrower audience than Simpsons, PLUS a lot of people might have seen it as little more than a knockoff of the Simpsons. Also, when Futurama started, Simpsons quality decline was already being noticed.

Probably because a sample of people didn't like it at the time . I understand that sample ratings drive advertisement prices .

It wasn’t a hit... I thought it was ok but Simpson’s was better it wouldn’t be a hit if every show was a hit there can only be one hit
