I just recently got engaged. We don't plan to marry for atleast 2 years. Is a large engagement party appropriate? Because it's so far away I thought it might be okay to have a large party.

No.  You can't have over ten people and they may have to distance themselves.

Sure, if you want one and can afford one. The engagement myst be announced to the guests while they are there. They should not be told they are being invited to an engagement party.

  • I didn't have one because we all knew each other, and he didn't have any family members that he wanted at it. I didn't have a bridal shower either, both are not really necessary to have.

At this time it's probably not a good idea to have an engagement party right now, since we're in the midst of an epidemic.

Engagement parties were to get both families together and get to know each other.    My son in laws family is in another state. My daughter and him lived on the other side of the US.   Their friends are all over.  It didn’t make sense to throw an engagement party.

This tradition is slowly become a thing of the past

You can if you want; but they're entirely non-essential (and probably best to avoid gatherings in the next few weeks given the global issues)

Not now, no. There’s a global pandemic going on.

When the threat is over? If you want, go for it, but you don’t have to. Not necessary.
