doesn't it seem pretentious when someone says they like any kind of art and any book genre?

It seems insincere and they are saying it for a sense of identity, rather than taking a genuine interest.

I read a quite a bit, so does it really matter what I read?

I don't think having broad interests  makes a person pretentious.

Just  because some art may not be MY personal cup of tea......doesn't mean I can't appreciate the work or craftsmanship that went into it.

I've also read some books, and immediately gave them away,   not deeming them worth keeping......but that doesn't mean, someone else might not enjoy reading I pass them on.
