The thousands of infections that are reported daily sounds scary, yet about 98.7% of these folks will recover in a week or 2?

Depends on how severe the infection is. Not everyone who gets it recovers

Buddy, your stats are WAY OFF. 80% of people who catch it won't need to be hospitalized because they cannot breathe and will die in moments. But that doesn't mean they won't be in severe pain for 2-4 weeks. There's a wide range of how bad it can get. 3% death rate counts everyone who has it including all the asymptomatic people who don't know they have it. The death rate of the people who test positive in Western countries who AREN'T testing everyone (which is all of them) is 10-20%, depending on hospital resources. You better hope you live somewhere with ventilators, lots of beds, and low population density.

If you are in the about 2 to 3% that do not recover, then how scary does it sound?
