How how could I write good paragraphs in stories?
- GA41Lv 72 months ago
Good paragraphs are unified around a central idea, thought, or feeling, called the topic of the paragraph. Every sentence in the paragraph should be related to the main top. Sentences written in the active voice are easier to understand. Many times paragraphs contain a topic sentence that states the topic of the paragraph. Often, the topic sentence is the first sentence in a paragraph. The other sentences in the paragraph relate to the topic sentence. If all the other sentences in the paragraph do not relate to the topic sentence, then the paragraph as a whole will lack unity and cohesiveness. As in all good writing, your sentences should be grammatically correct.Source(s): World Book Grammar and Style Guide.

You need coherence and cohesion. Just as a sentence expresses a complete thought so does the paragraph. The content of a paragraph should make sense (coherence) and each sentence leads into the next sentence (cohesion).
With multiple paragraphs each paragraph serves as the introduction to the next paragraph.
Conciseness is a word that is often overlooked. In short it means "get to the point". Conciseness is achieved through vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure. A thesaurus and a dictionary are a writer's best friends.
One method that can be used is to write simple sentences. Then take those sentences and combine them to make compound sentences. You do the same to write complex and compound-complex sentences.
Proofreading and the willingness to be prepared to write several drafts before you are satisfied with the product are also very important. .

Strive for cohesion. All of the sentences in each paragraph ought to be related to one another.
Have a purpose. Each of the sentences in a paragraph ought to come together to further the same purpose.
Don't be redundant. Quality over quantity. Don't pack your paragraphs full of filler and fluff to beef up your word count. The sentences that make the cut to remain in your final copy should be strong.
Don't skimp on sentences. A paragraph should contain between 6 and 12 sentences. If yours are particularly strong, you could trim a paragraph down to four, but they had better really be impactful if you're going to use so few. If you can't sculpt a paragraph with the minimum number then find those sentences a home in another paragraph or excise them altogether.
These are very simple rules to follow that if followed will seriously improve the overall quality of a person's writing.
