    Check with their parole officer on where other criminals live.

    Look for "mom and pop" type operations instead of corporate owned.

    People trace you by your social security number the social security office doesn't like to change your social security number but if you report that your social security number has been stolen as in identity theft and make a proper case you can get your social security number changed then your criminal history will disappear. You can also make request to the court to have your criminal history sealed

    By showing your integrity. Be upfront with your potential landlord about your criminal past owning up to your mistakes (not blaming others) and show that it is a part of your past not your future.  It is when you don't and wait for the potential landlord to discover it on the background check that you appear suspicious. This is also effective to not waste your money on applications.
