Records have limited dynamic range and need extreme frequency equalisation, so mastering for them was rather different than for digital media.

High quality digital systems such as CDs and DVD / Blu-Ray audio have much more dynamic range and better low frequency capability.

Plus, digital formats (including CDs) need no inherent equalisation as they have flat frequency response.
